Data speed transfer

In a network where we have 2 PCs with a 100 Mbits NIC on each, and a switch/hub of 100 as well the maximum speed we can have is around 12.5MBytes/sec. Why?

Because in each byte there are 8 bits, and considering that the communication includes additional protocol data control information, it may be reduce to 10 MBytes / sec
